Reading People: Body Language Briefing

By Chris Coffman Body language is the meaning behind the words or the unspoken language. Surprisingly, studies show that only up to an estimated 10 percent of our communication is verbal. The majority of the rest of communication is unspoken. This unspoken language isnt rocket science. However, there are some generalizations or basic interpretations that can be applied to help with the understanding or translating of these unspoken meanings. Here are some basics below. 1. Smile People like warm smiles. Think of a heartfelt warm-fussy, maybe your favorite pet, and smile. 2. Eyes If you dont look someone in the eyes while speaking, this can be interpreted as dishonesty or hiding something. Likewise, shifting eye movement or rapid changing of focus/direction can translate similarly. If more than one person is present in a group, look each person in the eye as you speak, slowly turning to face the next person and acknowledge him or her with eye contact as well. Continue on so that each person has felt your warm, trusting glance. Some suggest beginning with one person and moving clockwise around the group so that no one is missed, and so that you are not darting around, seemingly glaring at people. 3. Attention Span / Attitude Other people can tell what type attitude you have by your attention span. If you quickly lose focus of the other person and what is being said, and if your attention span wanders, this shows through and makes you seem disinterested, bored, possibly even uncaring. 4. Attention Direction If you sit or stand so that you are blocking another in the party, say someone is behind you, this can be interpreted as rude or thoughtless. So be sure to turn so that everyone is included in the conversation or angle of view, or turn gently, at ease and slowly, while talking, so that everyone is incorporated, recognized and involved in the conversation. Again some suggest the clockwise movement when working a group. 5. Arms Folded / Legs Crossed This can be seen as defensive or an end to the conversation. So have arms hang freely or hold a glass of water, a business card or note taking instruments while communicating with others. Be open with open arms. Note: If you need to cross legs, cross at your ankles and not your knees. Sitting tightly folded up says that you are closed to communications. 6. Head Shaking If people are shaking their heads while you speak, they are in agreement. If they are shaking, no, disagreement reigns in their minds. 7. Space / Distance On the whole, people like their own personal body space. Give people room and keep out of their space. Entering to close can be intrusive and viewed as aggressive. Leaning Sitting or standing, leaning is viewed as interest. In other words, an interested listener leans toward the speaker. Note others body language While you are with others, note how their bodies read. If a person suddenly folds his arms across his chest and begins shaking his head no, youve probably lost him. Might try taking a step back and picking up where the conversation began this turn for the negative and regroup. Its all about strategic planning! Learn how to meet and attract beautfiul women. Bamboo And Its Many Uses

By Margarette Tustle If anyone were to tell you that the shirt they were wearing was made out of bamboo would you believe them? It is not likely. But, it could very well be true. Not only is this plant being used in making clothing that is beautiful and long lasting, it is also being used to make high quality furniture and flooring, and it is also becoming a popular gardening and cuisine item. It is also a highly renewable resource that has been around for millions of years. Flooring And Furniture: Bamboo has a naturally occurring bug resistance and durability that makes it a natural for use in flooring and furniture products. The flooring is installed much like the pre-fabricated flooring products like Pergo that you see on the market today, but the difference is, that it really is a natural flooring product and it looks like real wood (or bamboo as the case may be.) The furniture comes in two basic styles with many variations on each style. You can get bamboo furniture that looks much like the type you would find on Gilligans Island with a slightly more sophisticated air if you want to duplicate a tropical paradise in your home or patio. Or you can get furniture that looks much like the other hardwood furniture on the market with clean lines and elegant shapes. You can get bamboo dining room sets, coffee tables, chairs, and other pieces of furniture. Fabric: Synthetic materials are becoming more and more popular. You can get a shirt or a pair of shorts made from the same material that they make drink bottles with. Bamboo is a new environmentally friendly alternative. It is able to naturally eliminate or reduce odors because of its anti-microbial capabilities. It looks much like silk and it is even softer than cotton fabrics. It is lightweight, breathable, and can be made into shirts, blouses, skirts, shorts, and capris. It is also made from pesticide free plants. Cuisine: You should not run out into your garden and start chewing on a stalk of bamboo. Not only will it probably taste terrible, but it is toxic if you eat too much. However, scientists are working to discover the healing and anti-oxidant benefits of adding this plant to your diet. It also has potassium, which is beneficial to heart health. In order to prepare it for eating you will need to peel it and cook it. It can be used in many dishes such as scalloped bamboo. Gardening: Contrary to what many people might believe, you can grow this plant in nearly any climate from the dry, arid country like Arizona, to the cool mountainous climate of New England. It is not just a tropical plant. It can be grown nearly anywhere. Some bamboo is only a few inches tall, while others can grow to more than 40 feet high. It can be an indoor container plant or it can provide a natural privacy barrier or screen between you and your neighbors. As we learn more and more about how to use our natural resources wisely, so that they can be more easily renewed, we will be better equipped for the future. When we do this, we are becoming better stewards and more responsible citizens of the planet. Written By Margarette Tustle. Learn more about bamboo and bamboo products from msbamboo.com. Disadvantages of Obtaining Free Bridal Shower Invitations Online

By Joel Meadowridge A large number of men and women in the United States love free things. Of course, why wouldnt they? Everyone loves free stuff, but there comes a time when free may not be good enough. Free party invitations, including bridal shower invitations, can be found all over the internet. Free may be nice, but many of the free bridal shower invitations found over the internet are nothing fancy. In fact, many are traditional or plain at best. Getting married is an important event to all brides; therefore, the event should be celebrated with an elegant bridal shower invitation. What better way to inform guests of a bridal shower then with an elegant bridal shower invitation? One of the many reasons why a person decides to obtain free bridal shower invitations online is because they think they do not know anyone who can make invitations for them. Many people do not realize that if they can use the internet to search for free baby shower invitations then they can use it to find individuals or companies who specializing making them. All across the United States, there are a large number of individuals and companies who specialize in making bridal shower invitations. These invitations are most commonly sold in sets. Bridal shower invitation sets can be obtained for a fairly decent price. It is important to note that they will not be free, but most are offered at a reasonable price. There are a number of differences between custom made bridal invitation sets and free bridal shower invitations obtainable online. Perhaps, the biggest difference is their quality. The individuals or companies offering free bridal shower invitations online are not doing so to make a profit. This means that since they are not always receiving something in return, they are not likely to spend a large amount of time making the invitations. Free bridal shower invitations often lack the quality and elegance found in those that must be ordered. Another difference between custom made bridal invitation sets and free bridal shower invitations obtainable online is the uniqueness. Free bridal shower invitations are often just a template. You can enter in your party information, but it is often difficult or impossible to change the style of the invitation. Ordering a bridal invitation set through a professional individual or company is different. Many individuals and companies make a set of bridal invitations the way that they were ordered. This often means that unique photographs, song verses, poems, and other wording can easily be added. If you are in needed of a set of bridal shower invitations, you can obtain them anyway that youd like. Free wedding invitations are nice for some individuals, but if you have the financial recourses to spend a small amount of money, why not purchase custom made bridal shower invitation sets? Make your special day or the special day of a friend or relative meaningful with beautiful party invitations. Joel Meadowridge is writer for To Invite.com where you can find a bridal shower invitation at an affordable price. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Arsha_Hanif]Arsha Hanif You are always late to the office by a few minutes and after the full days work you have to travel back by public transport, you dont get time to spend with your children and this leaves you in a state of helplessness. Your condition is worsening day by day. Its time to buy a car! Thinking how? Get a New Car Loan! A car loan is a type of credit offered by a bank or other financial lender for the specific purpose of buying a vehicle. It is the most admired and most supple option when you need finance for your car. Advantages of availing a car loan You are in the position of being a ‘cash buyer’, which enables you to negotiate a better price for the car. You can buy a car privately rather than through a dealer. You can sell the car at any time if you wish to do so. You own the car at the outset and the loan is not secured on the vehicle. Almost all car loans are simple interest car loans so you have to pay only on the principal amount. When going in for a [http://www.car-loans-for-all-from-c4f.co.uk/newcarloan.htm ]car loan you have to keep certain things in mind. First is the prepayment penalty. If you pay off your loan early, then you may have to pay a heavy penalty to the lender. Whenever you want to avail a car loan make sure that you shop around and get yourself the best car loan available in the market. You must also make a list of how much non-car related expenses you would have so that you can pay off your car loan on time, making that vehicle forever yours. One last thing, when you go in for a car loan the car dealer offers you a deal which is quite attractive on paper though it may have hidden additional charges. Be wary of such offers. Let’s Learn Almeda

By Shubhanyu Jain No student may claim a tension-free life in today’s cut-throat competition. While some by the grace of God and sheer grit outsmart the competition and get a degree from a reputable college, there is left behind a majority who has to struggle a lot to find a decent job for want of a degree. While they grow in the world with experience, they still are considered inferior to their degreed counterparts. Why? Even they have grown in terms of skills, and in terms of experience they may even outsmart a fresher. Then why not give them their deserved? Almeda University is one-of-its-kind initiative aimed at helping out those who were left behind. Contrary to the general perspective of Almeda, Almeda University is NOT your run-of-the-mill “diploma mill”. First off, the age bar for admission is between 35 and 54. So what? So this – Almeda University will NOT admit any and everybody who wants a degree like other “diploma mills”. Ever heard of a “diploma mill” asking candidates to write a Thesis or Dissertation to prove their worthiness for admission? Think about it, for that is what Almeda University requires of its candidates before approving their admission into the University. Ever heard of a “diploma mill” offering a full refund, and standing by it? Ever heard of a “diploma mill” offering exemplary customer service? At Almeda, you will get to hear all of it. Check this report. It clearly shows how Almeda stands by its policies and also its endeavor to reward only serious candidates – you can’t fleece your way through the college just by saying, “I have 9 years of experience working at such and such place.” Thou shalt be rewarded rejection in promptu. Think over it. If need be, read this all over again. But try not calling Almeda a diploma mill’ again. For you know it by now, it is not. Boat Financing-Take the Helm

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Julie_Jacobs]Julie Jacobs Do you need boat financing for a new boat or a pre-owned boat? No matter if you want a yacht or a speed boat there are plenty of choices available for you. First time boat buyers may be curious about the whole boat financing process. If you have bought a boat in the past, financing options may have changed since you made that first boat purchase. The boat financing process is now easier than it ever was in the pastespecially with the internet options. There are tools resources and products that will help you along the way. A boat loan calculator that you can commonly find on boat lending sites is a great way to get started. You can estimate your monthly payment within just a few seconds. If you know about how much you will need for your boat financing, you enter the total in the loan amount area. Then, you enter the length of financing. The current interest rates should be provided. You can continue to change the numbers until you get a good match for your budget. After you have used the boat loan calculator, you should look around the boat financing site. The better sites have links to boat manufacturers and dealers as well as more information about financing to help you get the best loan. They should also have contact information about who you can talk to in order to get more information about boat financing. The length of financing for a boat can range anywhere from 5 to 10 years to 25 to 30 years. The length will largely depend on the overall cost of the boat, your credit rating, the interest rate and the amount of down payment you are required to pay. Getting pre-approval for your boat loan is a great step in the right direction. It only takes a little while to fill out and submit an online application and you will have an answer in as little as 24 hours. Then you can get right on to the fun part-shopping for your boat. The Marketing Rule From World’s Most Famous Author

By Hans Bool Marketing is the art of informing people about products or services or even about companies, although in that case the activity is closer to branding. Writing articles is a marketing activity where you inform potential buyers about certain offerings. The acronym AIDA (attention, interest, desire and action) is often uttered in this context showing the four steps of a successful marketing (and sales) approach. The interest for writing articles is a very fundamental one, because you are able to reach many readers at the same time and any such a reader could be a consumer, a professional, a business representative, etc. Yet there is an even more successful way of marketing that doesnt involve article writing. But probably the oldest marketing rule is invented by indeed … an author. This is about a marketing rule that proved itself for more than four hundred years and was introduced by Miguel de Cervantes himself, one of the greatest authors of our times and the first to hit the world with a novel. Even if you are not familiar with Cervantes, you must have heard from the novel he had written in de beginning of the seventeenth century; “The History of Don Quixote de la Mancha.” The book is till today very popular and continues to be analyzed. And one of the details of analysis is just about the marketing of the story. We all know that literature should be credible and everything in a story must fit and contribute to the overall credibility. Otherwise the reader will not “BUY” it. In order to increase the credibility of the novel, Cervantes added a literate vehicle. Instead of pretending that the adventures of Don Quixote were written by Cervantes himself, he introduced an new character. In the book known as: Cide Hamete Benengeli. And this Cide, this very mysterious character is the one who originally ought to have written down the wanderings of Don Quixote. The reader is overwhelmed by this mystery and all his attention is drawn to the next steps of the tale. Not in the last place because the story had to be translated first. A marketing trick that has survived four hundred years of history. Because still today, the best attention your product can receive is that of someone else. If you write your own story, its fine. But if someone else – especially a satisfied client — tells about the success of your product and the interesting features, you have got the best marketing agent working for you. Writing articles is one way to fulfill your marketing activity. Having others tell your success story is even more promising. 2006 Hans Bool Hans Bool is the founder of Astor White a traditional management consulting company that offers online management advice. Inexpensive Things To Do With Your Family This Summer

By Jan Hayner All of us have come across the same problem from time to timeisnt there anything to do that doesnt cost money? There are a lot of things for you to do with your kids that you may have overlooked in this hurry-up world of ours, and its only natural that after you read this you will wonder why you didnt think of it yourself. So, just chalk this up to a re-learning experience and revisiting your youth!! Do you remember those summer nights when you and a bunch of your friends would play kick-the-can, red light-green light, or ghost tag (with the flashlight). Do your kids (or the neighborhood kids) know how to play these games? How about a hike through a woods or a park and just for fun, pack a picnic lunch and stop near an old tree and rest awhile. Go swimming at an inland lake or Lake Michigan. Build sand castles. Have a neighborhood fry-out and everyone bring enough for their own family and a dish to pass. Have a bon-fire in the back yard and tell ghost stories. Set up the camping tent in the back yard and rough-it at home. Have a scavenger hunt with all of the neighborhood kids, but make sure that they only go to the houses of people they know. Or you can have them only look for things at home and around the yard. Go to the park and play baseball, Frisbee, volleyball or tennis. Enjoy a day at the museum and learn about your County. Do you remember when you used to enjoy going horseback riding? I bet you never took the kids! Go Roller Blading, bike riding or for a long walk. How about going to one of the inland lakes and renting a boat and riding around the lake. Do your kids enjoy NASCAR? Then take them to the stock car races and let them guess which car is going to win! Go to rummage sales or flea markets and look for treasures. Have a family rummage sale and get rid of all of the clutter around the house and let everyone make some money. Check with your local library for summer programs. Use this free time to teach your children skills you don’t have time for during the school year such as sewing, knitting, cooking, and other homemaking skills. Boys and girls can learn to repair things around the home, as well as carpentry skills. Visit the local police station, fire department, post office or dairy farm (make sure to call ahead to set up an appointment. Keep a summer scrapbook and or journal. Make a dress-up box for little ones with some of your throw away clothes, dont forget to add jewelry, hats and shoes, then let them put on a fashion show for you and their friends. You can try this with older kids to, just hang up some sheets, give them a camera to use and a box of old clothes and let them make a photo album of their fashions. Teach the kids how to tie-dye a shirt or hat. Start a Childs garden, let them pick out what they want in their garden, dig it up and plant it. Kids love to see watermelons and pumpkins grow, then have a contest and see who will have the biggest. You might also have a flower garden with each child having a different color of flower. Kids enjoy things they can do with adults, do alone or show off to their friends, expense isnt always a factor in ways of having a good time, its the simple things in life that we forget the easiest. I Got Fired – Now What?

By Kathryn Marion No one plans on getting let go from a job many times the reasons are beyond your control. There are specific steps you can take, however, to guard against it ever happening to you by addressing the things that are in your control. Here are some suggestions to help you avoid a potentially unhappy situation before you’re discharged, and how to get what youre entitled to if it does happens: Before * If the job isnt right for you, turn it down. Accepting a mis-matched job will do more harm than good, period. Its certain to do irreconcilable harm to your long-term career goals. Be honest with yourselfare you really going to be able to adjust to something you dont want to do or arent quite qualified for? Besides, the company will be able to find several other, very willing people to do the job; they certainly aren’t investing their time and money to groom you for a future situation in a different department or field. * Find out if the company youre considering has a formal performance review program. If so, is it set up as a two-way street? If not, consider asking the person who would be your boss if s/he would be willing to work out goals and expectations for the job so there will be no surprises later. * Keep written record of your daily activities. Take special note if something goes wrong (what happened? could you have corrected it? did you get enough training or direction to be able to avoid it?) and write down if you feel you exceeded your boss expectations of you. By having this documented, youre prepared to debate if your performance is ever called into question. After * The person who does the actual firing (be it your boss, someone from human resources, or an outplacement counselor) is there to discuss it, not just do it. Ask questions and get feedback on your performance, the reason behind the action, etc. * Firing is supposed to be the if-all-else-fails solution to a problem. If it catches you completely off-guard, get as much specific information as you can about what went wrong…and learn from it. Dont be afraid to ask questionsjust keep your cool while doing it. * If you are planning to use your former employer as a reference, be certain that the record reflects an agreed-upon set of circumstances surrounding your dismissal to ensure that you will be correctly represented. Come to an agreement with your employer (in writing, if possible) as to exactly what will be said when future potential employers call. * If the circumstances allow, ask for (unpaid) time to continue to use company resources to assist your job searchsuch as using a computer and printer to prepare your resume or using the phone to set up interviews. But, most importantly, don’t panic. Use your ‘release’ as an opportunity to make things even better in your life. Like many, many people, you might find that your getting fired or laid off was the best thing to happen to your career! # # # Kathryn Marion is President of Education for Reality. in Erie, Colorado. Women in Crime

By Sharon White Criminology is an independent inter-discipline science with its own history that uses original methods of research and has its network of institutions and organisations worldwide. Criminology studies crime, its causes and conditions, individuality of a criminal and prevention of a crime as a mass social phenomenon. Nowadays the notion of feminism has not been definite exactly yet. Feminism constructs social, economic, and political responsibilities as to the eradication of racial, class and sexual domination, and also promotes for such an organization of society when individual self-development would have a priority over imperialism, economic expansion and concentration of desires on material sphere. As this essay title is particularly diverse it is not possible to adequately cover all aspects or subcategories of feminism in relation to its contradictory nature to criminology therefore this essay will be based around liberal feminism and particularly the debate of the new female offender, as brought to light by Adler, 1975. The essay will critically assess why feminist perspectives in criminology are relevant and detail the use of them in relation to female offending. In any discussion of the relationship between feminism and criminology it is important to recognise the complexities in their relationship. There is no one feminism and no one criminology. Different schools of thought within the sphere of feminism have developed out of different political and theoretical traditions. Central to all feminist criminology is the commitment to ending sex-based discrimination in society towards women (source adapted from Tierney, 1996:163). Her concern was that criminology, even in its more radical form, would be ‘unmoved’ by feminist critiques. She viewed criminology as completely dated and patriarchical and wished to abandon it because she could not see what it had to offer feminism. The 1970ssaw the beginning of serious research in Britain on issues of gender, crime and criminal justice from the perspective of feminism. This reflected the growth of feminism in a general sense, in the United States during the 1960s and in this country during the 1970s (Tierney, 1996:162-163). Up until and during this time feminism had achieved little or no credibility within the sphere of criminology, however these decades began a wave of feminist criminological literature that went much further than merely a critique of the masculine nature of criminology and the criminal justice system. Feminist perspectives, over the past thirty years have not only put some new topics under the criminological cover, they have challenged the theories, concepts, methods and assumptions of most of the people already involved in the study of crime. Feminists argue that theories of criminality have been developed from male subjects and validated on male subjects. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this, the problem is that these theories have been extended generally to include all criminals, defendants and prisoners. It was assumed that the theories would apply to women; most however appear not to do so Since 1975, the impact of the womens liberation movement on female crime has become the basis of a heated debate in the criminological literature on women, which I will now go on to discuss in more detail. The catalyst was Freda Adlers Sisters in Crime (1975) in which the proposition was advanced that womens liberation was causing women to engage in more violent crimeWomen have fought and won their battle for equality. They have come of age, and the phenomenon of female criminality is but one wave in this rising tide of female assertiveness (Adler, 1975:1, source taken from Naffine, 1987:89). But do we take from this that there is feminine criminality or merely that women offenders are more assertive, more aggressive and hence more masculine? There are two main arguments as to why feminism and criminology are contradictions in terms as Walklate puts it. The first being that female offending makes up only a small amount of all criminal activity wherever research is carried out. The statement that women commit much less crime than men do, is a statement that has achieved the status of a truth universally acknowledged (Maguire et al, 1997:764). Differences between male and female offending seem to be common across a variety of nations and cultures and in his research, Frances Heidensohn found the same consistent pattern which he believes has led some commentators to suggest that women offenders are only 10% of the trouble (Maguire et al, 1997:766). This argument would therefore suggest that in the arena of crime feminism has no relevance, as females are not equal to males in terms of offending. There is however another more telling argument as to the contradictory nature of feminism and criminology concerning the historical social construction of gender and more specifically those of masculinities and femininities. Criminology is concerned with the factors that cause crime and therefore focuses heavily on the criminal and deviant mentality of individuals. Such mentality in females means the embracing of certain given masculine qualities such as competitiveness defiance and daringness. The article was produced by the member of masterpapers.com.
